HURCO VERTICAL MACHINING CENTERS

SPIDERCOOL manufactures complete single and dual-nozzle Plug & Play Intelligent Servo Coolant Nozzle packages for Hurco VM and VMX machining centers. All hardware for mounting, plumbing, and interfacing are included enabling you to complete the installation in about 4 hours.

Hurco machine tools are well known for their simple to use feature packed controls, rugged construction, and reasonable price tag.  But what’s the sense in having an automatic tool changer, if you have to be the human coolant aimer?

VM models have only two manually adjusted loc-lines to aim the coolant at 20 different tools. VMX models are a little better having a coolant ring around the spindle.

But any manual nozzles are cumbersome to adjust, and no matter what, they can never hit all the tools perfectly like SPIDERCOOL does.  For all these reasons and then some, Hurco machines are a perfect candidate for SPIDERCOOL.

Equip your Hurco with SPIDERCOOL and start enjoying faster setups, hands-free machining, faster cycle time, better tool life, and a more safe and efficient machine tool in general.

Hurco VM and VMX machines qualify for our FREE 30-DAY TRIAL program for first time customers

HURCO SPIDERCOOL SINGLE NOZZLE SYSTEMS

The SPIDERCOOL servo nozzle assembly is mounted to the machine head and usually oriented to the front, right side, or rear of the spindle.  The most common location is on the right, with the coolant aiming to the left.  Front mounting is often preferred when 4th axis devices are used because it avoids interference with the rotary device.

HURCO SPIDERCOOL DUAL NOZZLE SYSTEMS

Dual Nozzles deliver ultimate performance by targeting each tool from multiple directions.  Especially important in 4 and 5 axis machining where cutters are continuously engaging on opposing sides of the workpiece.  Servo nozzles are mounted to the machine’s head and typically oriented to the front and right side, or front and rear of the spindle.

THOSE 1900’s ERA MANUAL COOLANT NOZZLES

JUST DON’T CUT IT ANYMORE

These photos taken from actual customer machines

immediately before the SPIDERCOOL was installed show why

Typical manual coolant lines.  One is aimed high for short tools, one is aimed low for long tools.  Neither of them can hit all the tools.  One jet is hitting the chuck which means half of the coolant does not hit the tool.

Three coolant lines and less than 1/3 of the coolant hits the tool.  The rest hits the tool holder, whips away by centrifugal force, blasts down against the coolant that’s supposed to be hitting the tool, creates a huge mess, a lot of mist, and reduces tool life in the process.

RELYING ON ANTIQUATED COOLANT NOZZLES IS LIKE GAMBLING WITH YOUR MACHINING PROCESS

Equals

CNC machining, on one part or a thousand, should be an accurate, repeatable, and automated process, not a game of chance. But manually adjusting coolant nozzles is exactly that.  A game of chance.  Gambling with your machining process.

Think about it.  Your entire machining investment culminates at the precise point where cutters are removing metal. That’s the sweet spot.  The only spot that counts.  And it’s the only spot where you need coolant.  The life of each tool and performance of every cut, literally depend on it.  It’s the difference between a good part and a piece of scrap.

Your tool changer holds 20, 30, 40 or more tools that vary in length several inches.  You try to set up jobs so they can run without constantly stopping for coolant line adjustments.  You have no choice but to aim one nozzle at short tools, one at long tools, one in the middle, and hope for the best.  If you’re lucky, at least some of the coolant hits each tool.  If you’re doubly lucky you won’t have to stop the machine, or be tempted to reach inside while it’s cutting to adjust a coolant line.  If so, you’ll be lucky not to mutilate a finger.  But that’s of course only possible if you override the door safety interlocks which is a huge safety risk, and an enormous OSHA violation.

Furthermore, in the process of setting up those coolant lines, you’re wasting valuable setup time, and you can never get it perfect.  You can also never predict when those coolant lines will get bumped, or drift out of position as they usually do. If you’re lucky they won’t because a coolant line moving even a small amount can mean a tool runs too dry, a part gets scrapped, your day comes to a halt, and you miss a customer delivery.

Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, 5S, you name it. All of these initiatives strive to standardize work, eliminate process variables, boost efficiencies, and improve quality.  None of them suggest depending on luck.  But relying on manual coolant lines, a major machining variable, right at the heart of your CNC machine tool, does rely on luck.  It’s a glaring deficiency.  A process gamble.  Right where it counts.  Where cutters meet metal.

SPIDERCOOL on the other hand, will immediately eliminate that process variable.  It will perfectly aim the coolant.  At each and every tool.  Each and every time. Automatically.  No luck required.  And no other single improvement will have such a dramatic, positive, impact on your machining process, and improve safety at the same time.  Talk about hitting the jackpot!
